I stumbled upon HomeGoods' StyleScope yesterday and took the quiz just for fun. I generally have no faith at all in these made up quizzes. However, this quiz was created by Deborah Needleman, the founding editor-in-chief of Domino magazine and author of "Domino: The Book of Decorating". I have some serious love for Domino, so I decided to give it a whirl.
My result was Glamorous Classic. Here is what it says
You have a refined sensibility with an appreciation for history and tradition in your furniture and your rooms. You value beauty and craftsmanship. You are visually sensitive and understand how symmetry and a balanced layout give order to a room. But you definitely like to shake things up with some unabashed luxury and glamour to keep things from getting boring. You go for rich materials like velvets, one-of-a-kind objects, lady-like touches, glimmering accessories, and a sense of old-Hollywood romance that makes your home dramatic and elegant.
You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.I would say that the second paragraph is more accurate than the first. I'm not so much into "Old-Hollywood Glamour".. Some, sure. But I'm more drawn to natural colors, clean lines, and simple elegance.
Here are a few more snippets of the results I felt were especially true:
The more serene your bedroom feels, the happier you will be. A pretty coverlet over a big duvet makes the bed look smooth—and not all duvet-lumpy! And, a blanket folded at the foot of the bed breaks up the big expanse of fabric.
You are probably not one to go in for crazy color, and you may want to keep things fairly neutral and sophisticated overall.
With my current master bedroom makeover, I've found the first statement to be especially true. It's coming together great, and I'll show you soon, I promise! Every time I walk in that room I get giddy. Z tells me I have a signature little hop & squeel when I create a look I love. :)
I actually feel like this exercise helped me clear my head a bit. There are so many different ideas I get, and I'd love to try them all out on my own home, but that wouldn't be wise. My home should reflect me. You can love something, but it not be you. What's wonderful is getting the opportunity to incorporate something you love into someone else's home, and it being totally them.
Anyway, I'd encourage you all to pop over & take the quiz. See if it helps you at all. Any one know for sure what "their style" is? What things do you just love that you don't use in your own home?
