Apartment Tour: Guest Room

Stop #2 on the apartment tour is our guest bedroom. Or, as I like to call it, the catch-all room.

{Apartment Tour Disclaimer: None of our rooms are finished yet (I don't believe any room ever is) but they've come a long way from when we first moved in here. Also, these photos aren't the best quality. I'm crossing my fingers for a DSLR for Christmas.. until then, this is as good as it's gonna get! :) Enjoy!}

Our wedding colors were chocolate brown and aqua. A bunch of people decided to buy us things in those colors as presents, and of course, we had lots of stuff left over in them. So, by default, this room became the white, aqua, & brown room. I had no real vision for this room - it just kind of evolved as we got settled in. I definitely wish I could've changed the paint color in here- the off-white looks pretty dingy against my bright white linens and decor. I had plans to make a headboard, change up the art, and do a few other things, but time has run out, and I'm now packing it up. Here's how it looked before I started throwing stuff in boxes:

The white down comforter was a gift, as was the homemade quilt on the end of the bed. Other gifts in the room: the photo tray (that has the books on it), and the pillows (the standard size ones in brown pillow cases). The wall letters were hung on our head table @ our wedding, the body pillow was from college (I just got a new case- hot pink no more!), all the throw pillows are DIY, and the plant is from ikea. The canvases were old ones I had and covered with fabric from Hobby Lobby. The same fabric was used to make the patchwork pillow.

These books have bright red, blue, and yellow covers. Obviously, that wasn't the punch of color I wanted in the room, so I dug up my old book covering skills from high school. I like the white craft paper much better. Also, next time you're at Ikea, grab a bunch of little plants and white ceramic pots. They're so versatile- I have them all over our apartment.

This little woven ottoman I found at Marshall's for $7. I used it as a mini nightstand because there really wasn't room for much else. The frame is from Target (it was $2 I think).

The other side of the room houses my Mid-Century Modern Dresser. From left to right: Thrift store lamp (that I still need to show you), Vase filled with coffee beans (from wedding-smells amazing!), Tree candelabra from Marshalls ($7, spray painted white), Salvage white ceramic vase and votive holder, Grocery store plant, Wedding candles on Thrift store cake stand.

There's still another corner of the room that functions as our "office" but there's no way I'm posting those pictures on the internet. It's a wee bit scary. Trust me. :)

Anyway, that was stop #2. Anyone else have a room in their house that's kind of a catch-all?? Have you guys repurposed items from your wedding into your home decor? Do share!

Our spare room is also our catch all room. It's the only space I have that can function as my office/scrapbooking/storage room. It's hideous.

I love finding items and spray painting them white or cream. I have a few items I've done that with recently.

Lovely guest room! I love that quilt.

covering the books is such a great idea! who knew all of those books you were forced to cover back in the day would actually give you useful interior design skills for the future. looks like HS was good for something!

I love that color combination! The bed looks so pretty!

Our guest room is definitely our catch-all too. Unfortunately the whole thing is like your office corner! It's a cramped mess!
