Kitchen Design

Hope you all had a lovely weekend! We enjoyed every minute of our gorgeous weather & spent a lot of time out on our newly-purchased land. We did a lot of brush clearing, apple tree pruning, and walking-path-making. It was wonderful to stand on OUR land.. all 54 acres of it. Zane and I did a lot of house planning as well. We discussed the direction (south-west for gorgeous sun exposure to our great room), garage placement, driveway location, and lots of smaller details. On our way home we stopped at a granite/natural stone center & perused the selection. That got us on to talking about kitchen design.. this is kind of where we're at right now:

I'd love to do the backsplash with carrara subway tile in a herringbone pattern like the fabulous Ericka did:

What do you think? Any suggestions from those of you who've designed your own kitchen? Or maybe there are things you wish you had done we should know about? We figure the best advice comes from those who've 'been there, done that'.

We did a very mini makeover on a budget--so no real helpful advice. But, I love the choices you've made thus far. Timeless and classic! : )

If I could do my kitchen over again (I designed mine myself), I would have waaay more storage space (pantry & closet style). I have great cabinets, they just don't hold that much when it comes down to it.

Oh I love the direction you are going in.

We re did our kitchen when we moved into our home.

To save costs we didn't move things around, but we got new everything.

I went with a classic look and did white cabinets and white subway backsplash.

It goes with the cottage feel of our home and I can switch things up with wall paint and new knobs whenever I get bored.

I really love the mood board, it's beautiful! And I love LOVE the herringbone pattern of the tile. I wish I could get a new kitchen...
