I had an amazing moment tonight. As I've done each night since I thought of it, I stood by his bed and hummed 'Amazing Grace'. Before I got through the last phrase, he opened his eyes. I told him again where he was and that I was there with him- basically stuff to calm him down and help him not to feel alone. He still wasn't very 'with it'- he couldn't look out the corner of his eyes to see me or have his eyes show recognition. So, I got up on my tip toes and kept talking. I told him he had a big day tomorrow and that he needed his rest. I told him to relax and close his eyes... and he did! A few seconds later he opened them again (he always was stubborn). I told him not to worry- he wasn't missing anything & told him to close them again... and he did! Direct responses to my commands- amazing!! He truly did hear this time! As he closed his eyes, tears streamed down both sides of his face. Talk about your heart just swelling up..
He still has a low grade fever- so please continue to keep that in your prayers. Right now, it's the only thing of any concern. The doctors keep giving us very encouraging reports.. they think he's doing so well just because he's young. But, we know the truth- he's doing so well because our God is in control & HE is taking care of my husband.
Zane's third grafting surgery is coming up tomorrow at noon, so your prayers for that would be much appreciated as well. We have a family friend who works in the cardiovascular wing but used to work in the burn unit. She said it's amazing that Zane hasn't had more post-OR complications- almost all patients do. But thus far, the fever has been it. We're praying that tomorrow will be the same way. Of course, I'll post an update just as soon as we get the surgery results. Thank you all so much- you prayers are like gold to me right now.
