The Little Things

I had an amazing moment tonight. As I've done each night since I thought of it, I stood by his bed and hummed 'Amazing Grace'. Before I got through the last phrase, he opened his eyes. I told him again where he was and that I was there with him- basically stuff to calm him down and help him not to feel alone. He still wasn't very 'with it'- he couldn't look out the corner of his eyes to see me or have his eyes show recognition. So, I got up on my tip toes and kept talking. I told him he had a big day tomorrow and that he needed his rest. I told him to relax and close his eyes... and he did! A few seconds later he opened them again (he always was stubborn). I told him not to worry- he wasn't missing anything & told him to close them again... and he did! Direct responses to my commands- amazing!! He truly did hear this time! As he closed his eyes, tears streamed down both sides of his face. Talk about your heart just swelling up..

He still has a low grade fever- so please continue to keep that in your prayers. Right now, it's the only thing of any concern. The doctors keep giving us very encouraging reports.. they think he's doing so well just because he's young. But, we know the truth- he's doing so well because our God is in control & HE is taking care of my husband.

Zane's third grafting surgery is coming up tomorrow at noon, so your prayers for that would be much appreciated as well. We have a family friend who works in the cardiovascular wing but used to work in the burn unit. She said it's amazing that Zane hasn't had more post-OR complications- almost all patients do. But thus far, the fever has been it. We're praying that tomorrow will be the same way. Of course, I'll post an update just as soon as we get the surgery results. Thank you all so much- you prayers are like gold to me right now.

Courtney THANK YOU for the updates,I read them to Zeke usually before he leaves for MPS. What a wonderful thing to see the tears, that lets you know he is hearing you but I am sure it must be hard on him to not be able to speak at this time, but before long you will be bringing him home. Again our prayers are with you, Zane and your families. Again you are a remarkable young women keep up the good work and god bless you all. Gail & Zeke

Thank you for allowing Zane to feel Courtney's presence and above all for your strength and healing hand upon this young couple. You are an amazing God!!! Courtney, thank you for encouraging us on how to pray for Zane. Thanking you for letting us into your life and allowing us to pray for you! I will update the prayer chains that I am on to pray for Zane's surgery today and to ask the Lord to take away the fevers. Hi Courtney! I'm so glad that Zane is doing well in his recovery. I live in Georgia and work at an electric utility. I have had your blog on my blog roll for many months now and was shocked to hear of Zane's accident. I will send up prayers for God to continue to look after your husband during this very difficult time. God will give you the strength you need and more. God bless you and Zane.

Courtney--I am Alicia Hartin's friend and met you once briefly at her bridal shower. I have been following your blog and praying for your husband Zane, as well as you and your families. It is evident that you are an amazing woman and that you and Zane a like are surrounded by love. I will continue to pray for as quick as a recovery as possible for your husband. I posted both yours and Zane's name on a prayer group of my cousin's and will continue to do so. Stay strong.
