Modern Miracles & Stubborn Bugs

The tracheotomy went well! It's all in and he looks a million times more comfortable without all that stuff in his mouth. They also placed a thin feeding tube in through his nose that actually extends down beyond the stomach. It's much more comfortable for him, but it also makes sure that the nutrition gets through his system. We just went in to see him and I am simply blown away by the progress. We got to see the graft on his neck and it looks downright amazing. It just blows my mind that God not only created such an amazing, complex body, but that he also gifted human minds to be able to create the technology and medical know-how to do such things. AMAZING!

We did get a report that a new strain of infection has developed. It looks like it may be septic (in his blood). But, they have identified what it is and have covered it with antibiotics they know it's sensitive to. We're into the stage now where Zane's greatest threat is infection. These little guys are stubborn and can become resistant to antibiotics, so the doctors are trying to stay very on top of tracking them down and treating them. His blood pressure has been a little low and his heart rate a little elevated. But, they assure us that this is just a little down-swing that is to be expected with infection. Your prayers in this area are very needed right now that God will give his body the strength it needs to fight off these infections.

His breathing remains good, and they're hoping to take the vent off his trach and cap it at some point this weekend so he might be able to communicate with us. What a blessing that would be! Your prayers for Zane's mind would also be appreciated. We have no idea how he'll cope with all of this when he wakes up. We know that his faith is strong and he is a very calm, logical guy, but tragic events can really shake a person up.

We are praising God that he looks so good- in another week his face is going to look fantastic! While we pray for those pesky infections to go away, we trust that God will provide just as he has through the past ten days. I am ever, always in awe of the love and faithfulness of our Father.

Many of your posts over the past few days have left me in tears, and I am overwhelmed by how well you are handling yourself. I know there are times you're going to break down and I want you to know I'm praying for the both of you. God's ways are mysterious and there's no way we can EVER understand them but He has a greater plan for both of your lives and I know that this situation is going to be used to further His kingdom! Be strong, still and patient and continue to allow Him to work through you! That hospital is a mission field and it seems like you're using it to your fullest potential! I can't wait to see what God has in store for both of your lives! :) From a sister in Christ from Florida! :)

Courtney,
You don't know me but my children and many of my friends are listed as your friends on FB so I wanted you to know since you so recently posted that I am praying for Zane, for miracles, for wisdom for the doctors, for health and strength to you and all of Zane's family and for your finances to be blessed that you can have an undivided mind. I knew immediately that Zane would be healed because of your faith in and love for our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I join you in that and thank you for including us in this so we can glorify Him.

What wonderful news to hear, your posts are so heart felt. It is amazing how much Zane has come in the days since the accident. Hopefully when he does wake up and speak he will be able to handle all of the things that are happening. He is strong and so are you. Thank you for keeping us posted. God Bless Gail & Zeke

I stumbled onto your blog doing a fabric search and realized Father had me here for more reasons than just pretty fabric. I am writing down your and Zane's name and we will be praying for you both...and for healing from the top of his head to the bottom of his feet. I pray Jesus holds onto you tightly as you continue standing by the one you love so dearly.

Our Heaavenly Father, I know that you love Zane so much and that he is in Your care. I ask that You might take care of these infections - giving the doctors the wisdom needed to treat them. Thank you for all You've done for Zane and Courtney. Praying that YOUR love will continue to surround them.

Keep looking up,

Priscilla Phillips

Thanking the Lord this afternoon for the procedure this morning going so well. I will be praying for Zane's mind to handle this tragedy and for the Lord to comfort and strengthen him in these days ahead. Praying too for the infection. May God bless you as Zane becomes more aware. Praying for those treating and caring for Zane also. Thank you for the update.

Thank God for the little miracles and the big miracles. May GOD send just the miracle needed for you guys. We serve a loving GOD that doesn't wish for any of us to suffer...he will send all the comforting angels to be with Zane and his entire family just waiting to be there when needed no matter the situation. Praise God All Mighty for the blessing received and the ones yet to be received.

Courtney, what you are saying and feeling is so very much like what we said and felt as we stood by my son for the two months it took for him to be healed enough to come home. Should you care to read the notes I kept I started a little blog just for that at Notes from Augusta
I continue to pray for you and Zane.

Every time I read an update I share it with B and every time there after we say a prayer of healing. Not just for Zane, but for your and your family. It is very clear that Zane is an incredible fighter and that even with the risk of infection he will not let it stop him. Keep strong and trust in Him. He is the healer and protector.

Hi Courtney, thank you for the new update. I am glad to hear that Zane seems more relaxed and comfortable. Praying that his continues as well as good healing and that the Lord place a protective barrier around Zane so that he can be safe from any difficult "bugs". Praying for Zane to get stronger every day to fight any infection. You have both been on my heart all day....continuing to pray for quick healing. Take care, Lorraine (Maine)
