Concrete and Brick

Zane and I were hanging out in the hotel in Boston and I found a gem of a post while going through my reader on my iPhone. Pop on over to Urban Grace to see Marla's post about her kitchen.

Zane and I fell in love with it at first sight and it's now serving as some serious inspiration for our kitchen plans.

Would you look at those brick walls?!?!?? So much character and texture. I'm about 80% sure that Zane and I will try to duplicate this look in our kitchen.

We have always talked granite for our countertops. But, after seeing Marla's custom concrete countertops, we may have changed our minds. We may even attempt DIY-ing it and go with granite if it doesn't work out so well.

What do you guys think? Would you go with brick or concrete surfaces in your home?

oooo, I LOVE this!

Also, I've heard that concrete gets stronger over time due to the molecular make up, so concrete counters could be a really good idea!

I loved this kitchen, too! So awesome... someday we're hoping to replace our countertops with concrete... I bet they'd stand up to a whole lot of mess! :)

I love concrete countertops! There's so much you can do to customize the concrete other than just the "concrete" look. I also love the idea of brick. It gives the room amazing character. I had wanted to put brick veneer in my parents' kitchen.

Oh wow - what a gorgeous kitchen! I love the brick and the graphic artwork. I bet you could DIY that brick wall with pavers fairly easily!

I think concrete has such a unique look, and there are thousands of ways to customize and get exactly what you want. I am definitely a fan.

Hey! Just found your blog via a google search about my kitchen. Thanks for sharing it. My husband, Shane, used to be a lineman in Houston and he lost a friend in similar situations. What a blessing to read that your husband is doing well!!! Marla

I love that kitchen counter and the brick finishing on the wall. I could cook in that kitchen all day!
