DIY Napkin pillows

When Zane and I were in Boston, we made a stop at Target for some cereal and I stumbled upon some really cute cloth napkins that I thought would be perfect pillows for our remodeled abode. For $10, I got 4 napkins which was enough for 2 pillows. I picked up a couple of white 16 inch zippers, and in no more than an hour, I had two beautiful pillow covers that could easily slip over some of my existing pillows. I sewed right along the hems of the napkins to give the pillows a little border.

And here's a little sneak peek at one side of our place.. still trying to narrow down the pillow selection. :)

Home

Zane and I have been back home for a week now and I've gone back to work. Overall, things are going quite well. I'm getting back into a routine at the office and beginning to dig my way out of a mound of paperwork and to-do lists. Zane has started therapy up here and we're very happy with the treatment he's getting. He's making improvements each week. Lately, his right hand has been hurting, but we think it's because the feeling is starting to come back. Praise God!! He's sleeping and eating better and his strength is improving as well. It's been a little hard to leave him for the whole day while I'm at work since I've spent every moment taking care of him for the last few months. But, when I can't be there, my mom usually is and I know he's in excellent hands.

As most of you know, Zane and I have been living in my parents' basement apartment while we wait and save up to build our house. Previously, we'd planned to break ground this spring. But, because Zane was going to do a lot of the work himself and is now unable to, we'll probably have to put that dream on hold for a while. In light of that, my dad worked relentlessly to finish off the basement while we were in Boston. It is almost completely finished now, and we have started to make it our own. Its layed out studio style with one big open area and a walk-in closet. I'm designing it to have bedroom, living, and office areas. As we make progress in getting it decorated, I'll be sure to share. Here are a couple shots of it during the final phase of construction:

Stay tuned!

Getting Back to Real Life

I think it's safe to say that I've been living in a bubble for the past 3 1/2 months. My world literally stopped spinning as it was and I focused on nothing more than Zane... praying him through recovery and taking care of his every need. Other than some remote computer work, emailing, and conference calls, I haven't worked a normal job. I haven't had a normal schedule or routine, other than Zane's needs and appointments.

I go back to work on Monday.. 6 days from now. I'm not going to lie, it's going to be hard to make the change. I am a financial coordinator for a private practice and ambulatory surgical center. I pretty much stare at numbers all day long, and the environment I'm in is often quite stressful. It'll be a little tough to focus on all that and not think about how Zane might be doing. But, it is a wake-up call that life must go on. We must ease ourselves back into our communities and into doing the same activities we did before, as much as possible.

Along with the transitions that we'll have to make in our real lives, I'll be making transitions here as well. This blog was about interior design and home improvement prior to Zane's accident, and it will be getting back to that over time. I think it only natural that it will be much more personal from now on- including more "us-related" things. You all have shared the most difficult battle and miraculous victory of our lives.. I don't feel as if I'm just "the girl with a love for design" to you all anymore. So.. if you want an update on Zane, stop on by. Chances are there will still be plenty of that. If you want to know what our plans are for our house or my latest design inspiration, stick around. That will be trickling back into my posts as well.
